Pleased Participants
I believe mixing the different levels of employees was critical to the success of the activities and projects. All energizers and immunity challenges were excellent. I plan to encourage my staff to more freely. The mind maps encourage equal participation from all."

Overview
It was supposed to be the adventure of a lifetime – a trek on snowshoes across from the heart of the Canadian hinterland to the North Pole. A short course at the Arctic Survival Academy to get us comfortable in this environment and a short familiarization trip and we’d be on our way.
But, we just couldn't resist going for it.

What Happened
A wild race across the tundra, lots of laughs - and suddenly we’re separated from our guides and the rest of our party.
We've lost our money, our identification, our passports and our airline tickets. We have enough food to last for the rest of the day. All we have is our snowshoes, the clothes on our backs, our survival packs, and the one “luxury” item we managed to sneak into our gear. We’re alone in our teams, struggling to get back to civilization.
We’re not too worried, our Inuit guides told us they’d send out a search party. In the meantime, we must come up with a plan. Our guides will help us implement it and get the word out.

We toss around a few ideas while we construct makeshift shelters. To get home, we have to raise money
for our plane fare and to replace our supplies. The only way to survive is to take stock of our situation, figure out where we want to be, make our plans and take action! We decide to get a good night’s sleep before we fully explore our options.
The next morning, we go ice fishing and then cook our breakfast. After breakfast, we begin to map our strategy using our Arctic Survival Toolkit as a guide. We make excellent progress by using tools like mind maps, storyboards, force field analysis, and flow charts. These are the elements of our plan:
- Identifying New Market Niches
- Marketing & Sales Strategy
- Team Ground Rules
- Project Management & Planning
- Planning a New Facility
- Sources of Capital
| |
We pause, hunt for a bear and start a fire to cook it for lunch. Then we fine-tune our strategy and await rescue. After we are rescued, we defrost and reflect on how we can use our new toolkit when we return to work.
